If you are a Mac user and a tipstrs user, you can now get all of the latest tips directly on your dashboard. Just download and install the widget, and you are on your way.
For all the details on how to use widgets, consult the documentation on your Mac. Basically, you need to be using OS X 10.4 or higher. Click the icon below. If you are using Safari, the widget will install automagically. If you are using another browser, you'll need to unzip the downloaded file (which will then be called tipstrs.wdgt) and put it in your /Library/Widgets directory. Then, when you start your dashboard you'll see the icon for the tipstrs widget (shown below), drag it on to your dashboard and the installation is complete.
The tipstrs widget has a scroll bar to view the results, much like the tipstrs home page. One thing you'll notice is that you can not grab the scroll bar with your mouse and move it. If you do this, instread of scrolling the widget, it moves the entire widget. This is how the Mac widgets work, and there is really nothing we can do about that. However, there are several ways you can scroll without grabbing the slider. You can use the scroll wheel on your mouse, you can use two fingers on your track pad (if you are on a laptop), and you can use the up/down arrow keys on your keyboard. The usage of the up/down arrow keys is new. If your widget doesn't support this, download the latest version and you'll be scrolling in no time.
There's still hope for you. Widgetop is a service that offers the use of Apple dashboard widgets in a browser window. You can set up your psuedo-dashboard and every time you visit their site, all of the dashboard widgets you have selected are available to you. Click here to add tipstrs to your Widgetop dashboard.
As part of the deal, Apple asks that we tell you the following:
