Believe it or not, some of the most popular online stores won't let you buy an iPhone 3G online: you can order it there, but then you'll have to complete the transaction at a local retail store. While some may see this as a good thing - you get to check your cell phone before taking it home -, for most of us buying an iPhone it's just an incovenience.

Well, you CAN'T buy it at Walmart and you can't buy it at BestBuy, either - 2 of the 4 official iPhone 3G distributors -. They'll both ask you to pick your mobile at their local stores.

Where CAN you buy your new iPhone ? Well, AT&T for one, but you're limited to two iPhones per household. Apple store is a second one, although they just adopted this option recently and you don't have any diversity of prices and models to choose from there, either.

In any case, all of the four above will make you sign an exclusive 2 year service contract with AT&T. Everybody knows service is not great with these guys - to say the least - and it's sort of an expensive option.

Craigslist and such would be a third option, but you don't want to go there unless you have a way to physically check your iPhone before actually buying it. There are just too many scams going on there, if you ask me.
