Restarting the dock in OS X
If you make changes to your Dock on the Mac OS X, they usually don't take effect until the dock is restarted. There is no convenient button on the Dock that allows you to restart it. While you can reboot to restart the Dock, here is an easier process:
1) Open the activity monitor. This can be found in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
2) In the main part of the window, find the process called Dock and click on it.
3) Click on the Quit Process button (the big red stop sign) in the upper left corner. You'll be asked for confirmation. Go ahead and say yes. The dock will then quit and immediately restart and any changes made to the dock will take effect.
