1. Drag the folder of Favorites at <home>/Library to side bar of Finder, you can create the Favorites with red heart icon.
2. Click command-shift-T at any favorite items to register at the Favorites folder.

Thanks for this useful tip! At first, I thought Leopard didn't provide this feature anymore, as it isn't obvious (to me) that the Favourites folder in the Library folder is meant to be used this way and it can be dragged to the sidebar. Plus, this option is not shown in the Finder's Preferences dialog. Now I used it exclusively to open/access my frequently-used files/folders/documents/apps.
