Map an FTP site to a drive in Vista

Windows Vista has a pretty cool feature that allows you to map a drive to a site that is actually an FTP site. If you are a frequent user of an FTP site, this is a pretty handy feature. Here's how to map a drive to an FTP site.

1. Click on the Start menu and choose Computer.
2. Click on "Map network drive", it's near the top right section of the window.
3. Click "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures".
4. This will open the "Add Network Location" wizard. Click "Next" to start this wizard.
5. Select the "Choose a custom network location" option and click "Next".
6. Enter the location of the FTP site. The format is a little funky (ftp://ftp.sitename.com) so look to the examples that are shown in the wizard.
7. On the next step, if you login anonymously check the "Log on anonymously" box. If you do not login anonymously, uncheck this box and enter the username of your account on the FTP site.
8. Type in the name you want to give this site. This is the name that will show up in your Computer window.
9. Click "Finish" and the drive will be mapped.

You can then use Window Explorer to see and manage the files on the FTP site. You'll be asked for your password the first time you try to go to this drive, but after that it'll be just like the files are sitting there on your computer.

This is NOT a mapped drive, it is a network location. Please change the misleading title so others won't waste their time as I have.

I agree, it's a web folder, not a mapped drive. Change tittle please ...
