Speed up slow PDF files in Preview

If you are looking at a large PDF file in Preview on the Mac and the performance of the file is slow, try saving the file from within preview and then opening the newly saved file. This should resolve any speed issues.

Thanks very much for this tip - I've been frustrated with laggy large pdf files for a long time.

An additional tip: Sometimes doing "save as" in Preview creates a really huge file (3 gigabytes in one case recently!). You can select "reduce file size" to prevent this, but it tends to go a bit overboard, producing a very pixellated file. But, if you open the pdf in "ColorSync Utility" then you can change the settings of the reduce file size filter to prevent this.
