This scam letter titled "OFFICE OF THE COMPLIANCE RECORDER" is being sent out in the Los Angeles County area to business and non-profit organizations. The "official looking letter" states, "Instructions for completing form CR-34-D, FEE: All domestic corporations shall pay a total of $150.00 USD, in a single check or money order made payable to COMPLIANCE RECORDER and mail to: Compliance Recorder, P.O. Box 91240, Los Angeles, CA 90009-1240"

It's not just being distributed in Los Angeles. I am in Texas and one of my clients received a letter at his business address. I thought something was remiss given the fact that we are in Texas & not California, as well as the grammatical & punctuation mistakes within the letter. I did a search for them online & found this post; and I felt compelled to comment because it's not just an LA issue anymore.

I just received one today. They make it looks like an official letter even the round emblem. If someone doesn't pay attention, they might mistake it for an official letter.

This is a scam. The company is called California Compliance Recorder. The envelope says Office of the Compliance Recorder. If you receive a letter - report them to the Better Business Bureau

Our organization was going to send payment to these people, until they asked me, the secretary of the organization for the minutes. Once I looked at the letter I knew something was off. Here is the link for the Better Business Bureau.

I just received a letter today, Oct. 23, 09 in Thousand Oaks, CA.

I received this letter also and almost paid and mailed the information when I realized I don't do business in Los Angeles and my Corporation is filed with The State of California... therefore Sacramento. I'm so glad I read this before I sent my check. I wonder how much money they have made.
