Choosing wireless router encryption

If you are trying to set up your wireless router to encrypt your traffic you may be wondering which encryption scheme you should be using. The typical schemes available are: WEP, WPA, and WPA2. Your preference should be WPA2, then WPA, and then WEP. WEP is a pretty old scheme and there are known ways to crack it pretty quickly. WPA is much more secure, and WPA2 even more so. The only problem with WPA and WPA2 is that some older hardware doesn't support it. So even it it's available on your wireless router, your computer may not support it and you may have to end up using WEP.
