If you're using an older, pre-2007 version of Microsoft Word and you want to change the background color of the screen, you can search the Preferences high-and-low, you won't find a way to change the background color. Instead, they decided to hide this in the Format menu. Select Format and you'll see an option called Background. Select it and it will pop up widget that allows you select the background color for your MS Word document.
