Use of plain fonts makes tasks easier to do

If you're a designer, here's an interesting article from Scientific American http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=a-recipe-for-motivation.

It seems they studied the effects that fonts have on people. They gave them a list of tasks to complete and used different types of fonts. The surprising result is that the font matters. When simple fonts were used, the tasks were more likely to be completed than when fancy fonts were used.

The upshot: using fancy fonts makes people think things are more complicated so they are less likely to attempt something they think will be hard.

The lesson: use simple fonts!
