remove store arrows in iTunes

There's already a tip that describes how to change the behavior of the arrows next to songs and albums in iTunes on a Mac so that clicking on them no longer takes you to the iTunes store: http://www.tipstrs.com/tip/1174/Changing-arrow-behavior-in-iTunes. But what if you are on Windows? You can't change the behavior of the arrows like you can on a Mac, but you can completely remove them... which is my preference since clicking on them leads to an annoying wait as you wait for the iTunes music store to load. If you want to get rid of the arrows in the Windows version of iTunes, here are the steps to take:

1 - You're going to need to edit the iTunesPrefs.xml file, so your first job is to find it. Probably the easiest way to find it is by going to Start -> Search and just searching for the file by now. Once you find the file, open it in your favorite editor.

2 - Find the following lines in the file:

<key>User Preferences</key>
<dict>

3 - Below these lines, add the following:

<key>show-store-arrow-links</key>
<data>
AA==
</data>

Save the file and then restart iTunes. The arrows to take you to the iTunes music store should be gone.
