Avoid splintering when cutting wood
Here are some tips to try to keep wood from splintering when being cut.
1 - But a new blade. Having a sharp blade will always reduce the amount of splintering that occurs.
2 - Use the right blade. Different woods and materials (like particle board and melamine) have different optimal blade pitches. When at the hardware store, check the blades ask someone there to recommend the right blade for the material you are cutting.
3 - Using masking tape across that cut line. Putting down tape will help reduce the amount of splintering.
4 - Precut with an exacto knife. If you've used all the other tips and you are still getting splintering, this trick will always work. But it'll really slow down your work. After you put the masking tape down, clamp down a straight edge directly on the line to be cut. Then make several passes over the line with a sharp exacto knife until you have completely scored the surface of the wood. Then cut directly on this line.
