Installing Silverlight on non-Intel Macs
If you try to install Silverlight on a Mac, you'll get the following error when the installer runs:
Your message may vary slightly based on your actual processor. But any non-intel processor will result in an error of this type.
If you want to install Silverlight anyway (most people report that it runs fine on non-intel Macs), here's a trick you can use to get the installation to happen.
Assuming you've already downloaded the Silverlight install dmg, mount it by double clicking on it. This will create the Silverlight2.0.pkg file.
Right-click on the Silverlight2.0.pkg file and select "Show package contents" from the menu. This will open a new Finder window.
In the new Finder window navigate to the "Contents" > "Resources" folder.
In that folder there should be a file called "InstallationCheck". Drag that file into the trash to delete it.
Close the Finder window. You should then be able to double click on the Silverlight2.0.pkg to install Silverlight. But now the processor check will be skipped and the installation should continue without any problems.
Microsoft Silverlight Browser Plug-In cannot be installed on this computer. Silverlight 2 may not be installed on PowerPC.
