Don't use GoDaddy.com to check domain availability

I checked a domain name on GoDaddy.com but decided to hold off on registering it. I went back to GoDaddy the next day to register it and it was already taken...by some company in Panama that tried to get me to pay $3,000 to get the name. GoDaddy is either selling their searches, or someone's tapping into them. Be careful!

I totally agree! The exact same thing happened to me when I started tipstrs. I checked the domain (tipsters, with an 'e'). Came back the next day and it was registered by a company in Canada that wanted $1500.00 for it. Ridiculous for a domain that is 1 day old.

I agree. Anytime I search for a domain, I buy it even if I don't end up using it. Not that I condone cyber-squatting but I don't want to lose the domain. In a year I'll let it go if I don't really want it.

Same thing happened to me. I checked on GoDaddy, some gut registered it and wanted $1200 the next day. Even worse, the place that registered it (leadingedgedomains.com) is a domain registration/hosting site. I'd say that this leadingedgedomains.com place is even worse than GoDaddy.
