Have your Mac shutdown and wake up automatically

The Mac has a cool energy saving trick: you can have it go to sleep automatically at a certain time each day and have it wake up at a certain time each day. Using these settings, you can make sure that your computer always is shut down at night and ready and still ready and waiting for you in the morning.

To set this up, go to the System Preferences and select the "Energy Saver" icon. Select the "Options" tab, then look in the lower right-hand corner of the pane where you will see a button that is labeled "Schedule...". Click on this button and you will be able to schedule your Mac to shut down and wake up automatically at times of your choosing.

Note that when Mr (or Ms) Anonymous says "have it go to sleep," that isn't just saying you can have it go into Sleep mode. You can do that, too, but what we're talking about is full shut down -- the same state as you get if you pull the plug.
