Change the taskbar grouping in Windows XP
If you use taskbar grouping in Windows, it will group mutiple taskbars into a single taskbar when you have the same program open in 3 or more windows. While not widely advertised, you can adjust this number if you like so that grouping occurs earlier or later. Here's how.
- Start the windows registry editor. You can do this by going to Start -> Run and typing in regedit.
- In the left-hand pane of the registry editor, click on the plus signs (+) next to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER", then "Software", then "Microsoft", then "Windows", then "CurrentVersion", then "Explorer" and then finally click on the "Advanced" folder.
- On the right hand pane, if you have an entry called "TaskbarGroupSize", double click on it and set the number to the value where you want grouping to occur.
- If you do not have this entry on the right hand pane, right click on the "Advanced" folder (in the left hand pane) and select New -> DWORD Value. Give the new entry the name TaskbarGroupSize and enter the value where you want grouping to occur.
