Free wi-fi from AT&T for iPhone users
After months of rumors, AT&T is finally offering free wi-fi at any AT&T hotspot for iPhone users, this includes Starbucks. You don't get blanket access with your iPhone, you have to get a new security code every 24 hours or every time you go to a new hotspot. Here's how it works (details at http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/internet/wifi.jsp):
- If wi-fi is not already activated on your iPhone, activate wi-fi from the settings on your iPhone.
- Select attwifi from the list of available networks.
- When asked, enter the 10-digit number of your iPhone, check the box to accept the Acceptable Use Policy, tap continue.
- You'll get a text message from AT&T with a secure link to the AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot. No, you will not be charged for the text message.
The link in the text message will only be good for 24 hours, and it will only work at the hotspot location where it was requested. So after 24 hours, or if you go somewhere else, you'll have to request a new link. But you can get as many as you like and they are all free!
