Read private twitter messages

On Twitter people can configure their settings so that only their friends see specific messages. There's a hack for Twitter that lets you see any message that has been sent privately to friends. To use this just enter the following URL in your browser:

http://twitter.com/statuses/friends/USERNAME.xml

where you replace USERNAME with the actual username of the Twitter user you want the messages for.

Not sure how long this will work until Twitter fixes it, but it's working now so get to work on writing an automated bot to download all these messages.

Dang, this totally works. All you need is one good user. You can get the twitter user names that they have gotten messages from, and just keep crawling from there. With the whole "5 degrees of separation" thing, you could completely grab messages from just about everyone. Very nice. Can't image this whole won't get fixed pretty quickly though.
