Search fields in Mac applications

Lots of Mac applications have search elements in them: Finder, Mail, and Safari/Firefox to name but a few. If you are looking for a general keyboard shortcut you can use on the Mac to get the focus into this search element, it is Alt + Command + F. This doesn't always work, but you'll find it to be a good general rule.
