The timeout for the backlight on the blackberry bold is pretty short. It saves the battery I guess. But if you find yourself having to constantly hit keys to get the backlight back on you may want to consider increasing the amount of time that the backlight stays on. You can change this setting by going to Options and then going to Screen/Keyboard. There'll be a Backlight Timeout entry there and you can set this to something that works better for you.
