32-bit color depth in GIMP
The latest version of GIMP, 2.6, now supports improved color handling with a 32-bit GEGL image processing framework. But even if you are using version 2.6 of GIMP, the improved image/color handling is not turned on by default. To turn it on go the the Colors menu in the menu bar and select Use GEGL.
