Updating to OS X 10.5.5 with verification errors
When I tried to update to the latest version of OS X (10.5.5) I got an error during the installation process. It said it the installer couldn't validate the contents of the MacOSXupd10.5.5Patch package. So I tried going through the software update process again. No luck. It made use of the existing download and of course it had the same problem. So far as I can tell there is no way to tell the software updater to go download the update again (this seems like a bit of a bug itself).
So the solution?
You have to go to Apple's site and download the update directly from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1055comboupdate.html. The big downside to this is that this download includes all of the languages in it, so it's twice the size of the download you get through the software updater. But it does allow you to update your system when it can not validate the package.
