When to repair or replace an appliance

Elevations Credit Union has an excellent article on how to decide whether to repair or replace your appliance. You can read the article online here. http://www.remarsuttonassociates.com/elevationscu/repair/rg-app-replace.htm

Some of the determining factors for repairing an appliance are the following:
- The appliance still has enough service years in it to justify the repair. (Visit the site to see a Table of Estimated years of service you will get out of the typical household appliance.)
- The repair costs are less than 50% of the cost of a new appliance, including the costs to remove and dispose of the old appliance.
- The appliance is still under warranty and the appliance is still covered.

When attempting to repair your appliance:
- Be sure to switch off your appliance and unplug/disconnect it from any electrical sources.
- Be sure the area you work in has plenty of good lighting and space for working in, tool and appliance parts.
- If you have a heavy appliance, make sure you get help if you need to lift or move the appliance.
- Make sure you have the proper tools and documentation of your appliance. You can get free diagrams of your appliance at APWagner.com. Simply enter your appliance's model number into the model number finder search box and you will be returned with clickable diagrams that will show detailed breakdowns of your appliance. This will help you with your repair and help you determine what part or parts you might need for a repair.

Finally, to avoid making any unnecessary repairs, keep your household appliances in good running order by maintaining it properly.
Check out the repair Center at APWagner.com for tips on how to maintain your household appliances.
