Speeding up your broadband connection
It's often the case that you can modify your TCP/IP setting to increase the speed of your broadband connection. The tools at SpeedGuide make this sort of tweak possible, even for the non-tech savvy.
Download the TCP optimizer from their site (http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php) and then run their speed test (http://www.speedguide.net/sg_tools.php it's on this page, and yes, you have to register). You can then run the TCP analyzer. If it finds optimizations that it thinks will work for you, you can choose to apply them or not. If you apply them, you can then rerun the speed test to see if things are faster.
For this, this was an interactive process, I had to run the TCP optimizer and the speed test several times. But I did manage to wring an additional 100kbs out of my connection as a result of the changes they recommended.
