Free VPN for hotspot security

When you are surfing on a wireless network (or wi-fi hotspot) your traffic can be snooped on by anyone with access to the network. For surfing that takes place on sites that make use of SSL certificates, your data is safe. But any other surfing you do can be snooped on.

An easy way to thwart this type of attack is to use a VPN. A VPN encrypts all of the traffic between you and the source of the VPN server so no sniffing can happen. The problem for most people is finding a VPN server.

Hotspot Shield provides a free VPN server that anyone can use. You have to download their software, but it works on Macs, PCs, and iPhones so just about anyone can use free wi-fi hotspots without having to worry about their traffic being snooped on.
