This is a nice blog entry from 37signals about productivity. I agree with them, most time is spent on details that really don't matter in the long run. Being able to identify the details that matter from those that don't is a key to being highly productive. But just as important is having the discipline to let the non-important details go. I often see cases where people admit that something isn't really important, but then they go ahead and spend time on it anyway.
