Weeds as fertilizer

If you've collected weeds over the summer, use them to start the ash bed in your wood stove or fireplace in the fall. Pile them in the firebox and build a fire on top of them, making sure no insects that may be lurking in the weeds get into the house. Make sure you burn them at full draft in a wood stove till they're ash, so creosote doesn't build up in the chimney.
The ashes can be used on your lawn or garden in the spring, with no danger of weed seeds sprouting.
