duplicating keys that say DO NOT DUPLICATE
Some keys get stamped DO NOT DUPLICATE right onto the key. If you want to duplicate a key that has this stamp, here's what to do.
Cut a thin piece of masking tape and wrap it around the key so that it covers the DO NOT DUPLICATE text.
Using a colored magic marker, draw a stripe on the tape, perpendicular to the direction of the masking tape.
Take the key and rub it in the dirt a bit so that it looks like the masking tape and magic marker have been there for a while.
When you are done, it should look like you are using the tape and magic marker to distinguish your keys from one another. And it should look like it's been like this for a while. Once you are happy with how it looks, take your key to the hardware store and get it duplicated. If the person duplicating the key takes off the tape and sees the DO NOT DUPLICATE stamp, you can play dumb... after all, it was covered. Just do it again and take it elsewhere.
