Checking trace routes from outside your network
When people have a problem getting to your server, one of the first things to check is the trace route (by running the traceroute command) which shows the path from the user to your server, including the location where glitches may be occurring. One problem with this though is that you need to be talking to the person having the trouble, and they need a certain amount of capability to run the command and get you the results. You really need the ability to run trace routes yourself from outside your network.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way for you to check the trace route from various sources to your servers? Then you could cut the user out of it and check things yourself. Well, there is a service that provides this for free at http://just-traceroute.com/. They give you terminal windows for Singapore, Australia, the US, and the Nederlands. While there are only 4 locations available so it's not perfect, this is a good step in the right direction, and the service is free.
