Helpful Sleeping Positions If You Have Sciatica
Trying to get to sleep if you have sciatica can be really difficult. Often this type of back pain is worse as soon as you stop moving around which makes sleeping difficult.
Experiment with one of these different positions that you may not have thought of and see if it helps.
1. Lying on your front with pillows under your hips and waist. Experiment with different numbers of pillows. This puts your spine in a slightly flexed position and can be very comfortable.
2. Lying on your back with your legs up on a small stool or pillows so that your hips and knees are at 90 degrees. This is one I find a lot of people really like.
3. Lying on your side with a pillow alongside your knees so you can bend the top leg and rest it on the pillow. This keeps your spine nice and level.
Most people with severe sciatica like to move around so there is a good chance that you will need to regularly change and move between all of these different positions.
Make sure you talk to your doctor about getting a diagnosis and pain relief too.
