Remove disk icons from the Leopard desktop

In Leopard (unsure about Tiger) it's a pretty simple process to remove the hard disk icons from your desktop. I personally don't like having them on the desktop cause I never use them, they just take up space. If you want to get rid of them open a Finder window and go to "Finder > Preferences..." in the menu bar.

In the "General" tab there is a section called "Show these items on the Desktop". If you remove the checks in the boxes next to "Hard disks" and "External Disks" those disk icons will no longer be shown on your desktop.
