Coaching Youth Softball - 3 Tips
Here are a few tips for people who get or are involved in coaching youth softball:
1)Make sure to hold a meeting with the parents at the beginning of year where you "lay down the law" meaning you explain your philosophy, your rules, your expectations, and how you function. That will save you a lot of headaches.
2) Make sure you hold at least one practice a week. Too many coaches play either too many games or don't have enough practices. You need to teach the young softball players good fundamental skills. No field available is no excuse. School yards or just space in a park on the grass will do. Just be creative.
3) Make sure your practices are active, challenging and fun. Don't let kids stand around and be bored.
If you are questioning yourself about whether or not you should be coaching, check my podcast (audio recording on that topic) that I posted on my blog.
