Pouring gas into portable containers

As everyone knows, gasoline is very flammable. But not everyone knows that the vapors are also flammable and it doesn't take much to set them off, a simple spark can do it. One common way for accidental gas fires to occur is when filling portable containers. When filling a portable container it's real important to take steps so that there will be no electrical spark between the container and the gas pump nozzle when you are filling. To keep there from being a spark, always do the following:

1 - Always put the container to be filled on the ground.

2 - *Before* you start pumping gas, touch the nozzle to the container when you are putting the nozzle in the hole of the tank and make sure the nozzle stays in contact with the tank the entire time you are filling it.

If you follow these steps, you will greatly reduce the danger associated with filling portable gas containers.
