cleaning clay stains
We live in an area with a lot of red clay and the kids are always staining their clothes with it. Here's the method I've been using to get the red clay stains out.
Mix ammonia into your NON-BLEACH powdered laundry detergent. Just add enough ammonia so that your detergent becomes a paste. Also be VERY SURE to use a detergent that has NO BLEACH! If you mix bleach and ammonia it will give off a gas that can be fatal. So read the label carefully before you start mixing.
Once you have the paste, rub into into the clay stains with a brush. Make sure to wear cleaning gloves so you don't get any on you. And make sure you use a brush that is dedicated to cleaning.
Once the stain is brushed with the mixture, let it sit for 15 - 30 minutes and then wash the clothes in hot water.
I've found this to be a good way to remove the red clay stains from my kids clothes.
