Properly size your images when displaying them online

There are still some people using a dial-up modem for internet access. You should always be aware of this when you place images on a website because dial-up users won't stick around for very long if you have a slow loading web site or image.

The more images that you have on your website, the longer it will take for that web page to load.

To speed up delivery of your web page try to keep the size of your images to about 50kb or smaller.

A good size for images on your web page would be somewhere between 150 pixels to 300 pixels on the longest side of the image. This will insure that your images loads quickly.

Cropping your images to remove most of the unnecessary background area around the subject of your image before resizing will help reduce the image size.

Being as close as possible to the subject and filling up the entire LCD viewing screen with the subject of your image leaves less for you to crop.

If necessary, you can also compress your image to reduce the image file size.
