Buying an HDMI cable

If you have a HDTV and you want to hook up components that make use of high definition like a blu-ray player or a video game console, you'll need to use an HDMI cable to connect the devices. If you don't you won't actually be using the high definition signal.

Like everything related to electronics, there are a lot of choices when it comes to HDMI cables. When you go to the store, you'll see a wide variety of prices. But here's the thing about HDMI cables: the signal is transmitted digitally over the cable. Unlike analog cables (such as speaker wires) where you can degrade the signal with a bad cable, digital signals are an all-or-nothing deal, if any of the signal is missing you won't get anything. Buying a more expensive or "higher quality" cable will *not* result in a clearer, or better, picture.

What this means to you is that there is no reason not to buy the cheapest HDMI cable you can find. If you hook it up and it doesn't work you will know right away and you can return it. If the cable works, you will be getting the full clarity. Buying a more expensive HDMI cable will not do anything except empty your bank account.
