Clean up glue on boards when it is still wet

When you are gluing up joints, make absolutely sure that you clean up any glue that squeezes out of the joints when it is still wet. Use a *slightly* damp sponge and keep a bowl of water handy; keep rewetting the sponge to get the glue out of the sponge.

Doing this will get all of the glue out of the wood. Failure to properly remove all of the glue will affect the color of the stain where the glue has gotten into the wood. Trying to clean up glue after it has dried is really tough since it is often very hard to sand in the direction of the grain on all sides of the joint.
