Faster indexing in VistaIf you have multiple hard drives on your Vista computer, make sure you put the search indexing on your fastest drive. This will help speed up your computer. If the indexing is not already occurring on your fastest drive, here's how to move it there.
- Go to the Control Panel and select System and Maintenance followed by Indexing Options. - From Indexing Options, click the Advanced buttons and wade through the UAC prompts to make sure you really want to do this. - In the Index location, click the Select new button. - In the file system browser that opens, navigate to the target drive and then click the Make New Folder. You'll be prompted to enter a name for the new folder to hold the indexing results. - Click the OK and Close buttons as needed to close all of the panels you've opened. Once you get all of the panels closed, you need to reboot for this change to take effect.
