Require a user name for Vista logins
By default when you log into Vista, you can select an icon to pick the user you want to log in as. If you want to increase the security of your Vista machine, you can do away with the icons and require users to enter their user name manually ala Ubuntu and most other *NIX systems.
To make this change you need to edit your registry. Open regedit.exe by using the search in the Start menu. Once it is open, in the left side of the window navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System directory. Once there right click in the right side of the window and select New > 32-bit DWORD and enter a new value called DontDisplayLastUserName and give it a value of 1.
Once you then save your changes and close regedit you will then be required to enter your user name manually on the Vista login screen.
