Starting cucumbers & squash in the house

I always want to get a jump start on all my plants but I always struggled with cucumbers and squash because their roots don't like to be disturbed and get hindered by transplanting. I tried using peat pots but they dry out so quick I would forget to water them every few days. As a solution I use the peat pot but when the plant comes up I put the peat pot in a plastic pot and surround the pot with dirt up to the top of the peat pot. Try to cover the entire peat pot with dirt to hold in the moisture. This way the roots do not get disturbed and you can keep them on the same watering schedule as your tomatoes & peppers. One other thing, don't start these plants to early or the roots will grow through the peat pot and you will be back where you started.
