Typing accented characters on the iPhone

Typing accented characters on the iPhone is easy. To do it, just press the character on the keyboard that you want to be accented (a, e, o, etc) and hold you finger on the key. After a second or so, and additional little pop-up menu will appear over the letter showing the accented character options.
