best way to catch mice

We get a lot of mice at our house, so I've had the opportunity to try many different ways of catching them. The best I've found so far is "The Better Mousetrap" (link is below). They are big plastic mousetraps that you can set without losing a finger. The big plastic pieces make it really easy to get the mouse out without having to touch any of the nasty dead mouse bits.

Someone told me you shouldn't try and re-use mouse traps. They said that the mouse releases some sort of smell when it dies, and this will keep other mice away from the trap in the future. I've re-used my traps many times, and they keep catching mice every time, so I don't think this is really true.

I find that peanut butter works best on the trap. And then I set it up against the wall so that the mouse will be walking right into it when they are scurrying against the wall.

Female cats are fabulous for this. I hear males don't mouse. My girl is a champion mouser, so I can vouch for the gender thing. We had some at Christmas and she'd kill them and leave them under the tree with the presents every time. It's as if she knew that's where the good stuff goes!

Males don't mouse? That dog don't hunt!

Males do mouse. And bunny. And lizard. And bird. Or at least one male cat did.
During the summers, my male cat would essentially feed himself on mice. During the springs, he added baby bunnies to his diet. Magnificent hunter, a lot more capable than his mom was.

True about male cats if they feed in the wild but with housebound cats eating cat food you'll find the female cat more alert to mice. She'll make an offering to the family, as if to say she can bring home the bacon, too. (.. in the jungle it is well known the female lion is the hunter)

Regarding mouse traps, you will find glue flat-pads work best. Rather inhumane though, as the mouse will chew off legs and feet to free itself. One should keep an eye on the traps and when one finds a trapped mouse one should immediately hold the mouse along with the trap down into the toilet water to drown the mouse. Once dead the mouse can be removed and the trap reused.

If you are not an evil person, you can always buy traps that don't kill the animal and then free it into the wild.

Yeah, people who kill the rodents are evil. Please, get real. Mice reproduce at alarming rates so releasing them only adds to the problem. They will come right back. Hey now, why dont we catch and have the local vets pay to spay/neuter them?
