Turn off Vista auto-detect on folders
One of Windows Vista's most annoying "features" is the auto-detection of folders in Explorer. The idea is that once Vista knows what type of files are in the folder, it can show the detail columns appropriate to that that file type. The problem with this is that if you mix file types in a folder (which always seems to happen), the auto-detection can get messed up pretty quickly.
Vista does not give you a way to turn off this auto-detect "feature" in Explorer. You can customize the columns shown in the folder. But doing this for every folder that it incorrectly auto-detects gets old real quick. There is an easier way to handle this. ExplorerView (http://www.sdsoftware.org/default.asp?id=11214) allows you to completely turn off the auto-detection that happens in Explorer. You can customize the columns you want shown in the details view, and then it stays that way for all of your Folders.
