selling price of a home
When you are selling your home, be wary of your real estate agent if price becomes an issue. You may think that your agent wants to get you every penny possible, but that's usually not the case. Even though agents work on a commission, what they usually get is a about 1% of the home's sale price (the office they work for takes a large chunk). So if you are haggling over $5000, the difference to the realtor is only $50. But to you, it's $4700. $50 isn't worth haggling over, for most people $4700 is worth haggling over.
For the realtor, it's much more important that the sale happens. They are not going to risk a sale for an additional $50 profit. But for you, the situation is different. Make sure you understand what your home is really worth by looking yourself at comparable sales in your area. And if your agent starts saying things like, "I want the highest price too since my commission is tied to the sale price," be very wary.
