First dates can be very difficult. I could list the 100 reasons why, but if you are dating, you already know them and that you can't do much about any of them. But there is one good piece of advice I can give to guys for first dates: don't be desperate.

If you are too desperate, you are going to turn off a girl on the first date. Nobody wants a guy without some sort of challenge. And coming off as desperate it just plain creepy. Specifically, here are some things you should never do on a first date:

1 - Bring flowers or gifts. Okay, if it's dinner at her place, you can bring a bottle of wine to be polite. But if you are going out some place (which you most likely are), do not bring flowers, candy, or other cute gifts. Nothing says desperate more than a guy willing to buy gifts for a women he doesn't know.

2 - Let her get her way all night long. There will be decisions aplenty on any date. Make sure some of them go your way. If you let her get her way every time something comes up, it'll be obvious you are a total push-over. I guess some women like having a guy that is their bitch, but most women prefer a little bit of a chase. Give it to them.

3 - Call/email/text/twitter her repeatedly after your first date. If the first date goes well, ask her if she's interested in going out again. If so, let her know when you are going to contact her... and it better be several days later. Then actually follow up on that day. If you hound her with calls immediately after your date, you'll come off as a total creep. And you probably are.
