Checking password strength

If you are creating new passwords, you should always check their strength to make sure that the strength is appropriate to the task at hand. Yeah, you don't need a strong password here at tipstrs, but for your bank or stock broker, you should make darn sure that your password is as strong as possible. Since password strength is dependent on so many factors, it's hard to know a good one from a bad one (although the really bad ones are usually pretty obvious).

The best way to be sure that your password is strength is to check it. There are a lot of good password strength checking sites out there, but I prefer this one: http://www.passwordmeter.com/. The nice thing about this one is you can see the strength move every time you add or remove a character to your password. And it gives a full description of the algorithm used, so you can see what changes are needed to make your password stronger.
