How to introduce a child to reading - for fun!
Good reading skills will benefit a child in many ways - for personal entertainment, success in school, and their professional adult life. Unfortunately, reluctant readers may not be interested in traditional books.
A possible solution is to suggest a graphic novel - a book of comics. While limited in the amount of actual reading text, graphic novels help bridge the gap between imagination and reading skills by using artwork to help tell the story. Eventually, as a child's reading skills improve, he or she will better prepared for more reading, including children's books, textbooks, etc.
It's important to try and find graphic novels which match your child's interests. Many types of graphic novels exist, and are available for different age groups.
