Comparing New Jerey Homeowners Insurance Rates

To get the best New Jersey homeowners insurance policy you need to understand what you are looking for.

Personally, I have noticed that you will pay much more by not knowing your facts before getting quotes. First, there are a number of discount homeowners insurance policies available from state to state, which are very different from each other, depending on if you rent or own your home or condo.

First, Do you own your own home in New Jersey? If so, there are three types of policies available to you. http://www.ellisfinancial.net/homeowners-insurance-quotes.htm

The first level of homeowners insurance is a limited coverage policy. Limited will cover you against disasters like fire, lightening, wind, hail, explosion, riot, aircraft, vehicles, smoke, and usually vandalism. You can only get this type of coverage in a few states. You need to find out if you are in one of those states

Here are three quick tips to help you save money on homeowners insurance:

1. Make sure to look for the discounts that you could qualify for. If you can lower your risk level you will lower the cost of your premiums. Having a security system, deadbolts or smoke alarms will traditionally save you 15-25% on your premium costs. It only makes sense to invest in these security features as it often can save you thousands of dollars in overall premiums.

2. Increase your deductible. This is a definite way to save money on your policy. If you have a low deductible of $50 to $100, consider raising it to at least $500 to $1,000. You could save up to 25% on your premiums. It's important to determine you financial status, so in case of an emergency you can afford whatever deductible you decide upon.

3. Buying your homeowner's and auto insurance policies from the same insurance company can save you lots of money. Most companies offer discounts of 5 to 20% if you buy both types of coverage from them. Check around and make sure the price is lower than buying the two policies from two different companies before making this move.

Remember that your policy should provide coverage for living expenses like hotel if your house is destroyed. Also, liability coverage will provide protection if you or anyone in your home is held legally liable for causing injury to someone or destroying property.

Increasing your deductible is a great way to save money on your policy. If you have a low deductible of $50 to $100, consider raising it to at least $500 to $1,000. Expect to save up to 30% on your premiums with an increased deductible like this. Do keep in mind that it's important to determine you financial status, so that you can afford whatever deductible you decide on.

In most states it is also legal for homeowners insurance companies to charge higher premiums based on the breed of the dog. While there is no standard list of ‘high risk’ dogs among different insurance carriers, some of the breeds that are most often targeted are Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, Pit Bulls, Huskies, Malamutes, Chow Chows, Great Danes, and Saint Bernards.

with the low mortgage interest rates hopefully homeowners insurance in NJ will also see a drop in cost.
