Free website monitoring
If you have your own website, it's a good idea to set up a monitoring service so that you know if/when your site goes down. This can help minimize the amount of down-time you experience. Basic State offers a free version of this service. It checks your sites every 15 minutes (there is no limit on the number of sites you can have checked) and if it finds that the site is down, it sends you an email or an SMS to let you know.
They also keep track of the response time on your site and they give you graphs so that you can see how your site speed is over the course of time.
It's pretty well done for a free service.
