Reduce fire risk when broiling

When you are broiling meat, there is always a fire risk since fat usually builds up in the pan under the meat and this fat can catch fire. To reduce the chances of having a grease fire when you are broiling, put a thick layer of salt in the bottom of your broiling pan. While the meat is cooking, the salt will absorb the fat and grease that drips down, and this will help eliminate flare-ups and grease spatters that can start a fire when broiling.

I prefer to add salt at the table,so I can control my intake. Wouldn't the suggested method make the meat very salty and unhealthy.
